The 10 Best Black Wedding Rings for Men in the UK (2026)
Alan has overseen more than 100,000 ring orders since founding Newman Bands with Clare. Newman Bands is the trading name of Manzora Ltd, incorporated in 2001; it has sold men's rings since 2019, with every design and size held in stock in the UK and same-day dispatch on orders before 5pm — most orders arrive within one to two days. Alan personally answers customer queries on metal selection and ring choice every week. Newman Bands has more than 15,000 verified customer reviews — rated 4.99 out of 5 on Reviews.io and 5.0 on Trustpilot.
Short answer: every black ring is black in one of three ways: a coating over grey metal (black tungsten and black titanium, ours included), an oxide grown into zirconium, or colour through the body (ceramic). Coated tungsten is the heaviest and, in Alan’s experience, the toughest coating; coated titanium is the lightest; ceramic is light and black throughout; zirconium cannot peel but costs three to four times as much.
How we chose these ten
1. Best overall: The Jet — £60 at Newman Bands
What we like
- Brushed matte black, dark without the shine of a polished band
- The reassuring weight of tungsten: 15 g for the 8mm at size U on our scale
- 6mm or 8mm, in 21 sizes from K to Z5
- More than 80 verified five-star reviews
What we don’t like
- The black is a coating, so a hard scrape on a sharp edge can show grey underneath
- Tungsten cannot be resized, so the size has to be right first time
The Jet is the most-reviewed plain black tungsten ring we sell, and the one we would hand a groom who wants black without a pattern. We weighed an 8mm in size U at 15 g. That is the heft one reviewer meant by "nice weight to it".
The black is a PVD coating over tungsten carbide. The film is thin: Ionbond lists 0.2 to 2 microns. So the colour is a skin, not the body. In practice that skin is hard: in Alan's words, "I would always recommend tungsten over titanium as the plating is stronger."
The brushed finish is the reason to choose it over a polished black band. It reads matte rather than glossy, and one reviewer called it "lovely and weighty".
If the Jet does not fit, you exchange it for another size free of charge, as many times as it takes. That is the answer to tungsten being impossible to resize.
What customers say about it:
“He wanted something black and different to replace his silver one. I looked high and low and found different photos to show him. He loved every single one from Newman Bands and he ended up deciding on the Jet. It looks amazing on him, arrived so fast and the quality is top notch 10/10.”
Kate Prytherch, Wallington · verified five-star review
“For the price I wasn't expecting much in the way of quality but I have to say we have been blown away. The ring is stunning and sleek, it has a nice weight to it and feels really classy.”
Stephen Slee, Lewisham · verified five-star review
2. Best lightweight black: The Esteem — £60 at Newman Bands
What we like
- Black all the way through: the colour is the ceramic itself, so a scratch stays black
- 7 g for the 8mm at size U on our scale, against 15 g for the Jet
- Brushed centre with polished stepped edges, so it looks like the Pursuit tungsten ring at a glance
- 6mm or 8mm, in 17 sizes from M to Z3
What we don’t like
- Ceramic is brittle: dropped on a tiled floor it can chip or crack
- Only black or white exist in ceramic, so no two-tone options
- Few reviews so far, because most buyers have never heard of ceramic rings
When a customer asks for a light black ring, Alan points them here. His words: "If you want a lightweight black ring, take a look at the ceramic range." The Esteem is the ceramic twin of our Pursuit tungsten ring. Side by side they look the same; on the hand the ceramic weighs less than half.
The black is not a coating. Ceramic rings are coloured through the body before firing, so there is no grey metal underneath to show. In Alan's experience the fading or scratching that occasionally reaches a black tungsten ring is something he does not recall on ceramic.
The trade-off is toughness of a different kind. Ceramic resists scratches well but has far lower fracture toughness than tungsten carbide, so it is the likelier of the two to crack from the same hard knock. Neither can be resized.
Ceramic is a niche choice: fewer than one in two hundred of the rings we send out. If you find a style you like, it is a very good option.
What customers say about it:
“he loves it and it fits perfectly.”
Alisha Knight · verified five-star review
“Very elegant, just what we needed, would recommened”
Chelsea Collingwood · verified five-star review
3. Best two-tone: The Visionary — £61 at Newman Bands
What we like
- A single blue line through brushed black, subtle in daylight and striking under lights
- 8mm, in 24 sizes from H to Z5
- The blue reads darker in person than on screen, so it stays understated
What we don’t like
- 8mm only
- Any two-colour ring is built from parts, so the sizing has to be exact; rarely, the parts can separate
This is Alan's own pick: "I love the Visionary, the dual colour band is striking and looks great."
Two-tone black rings are where buyers worry most about taste. One reviewer admitted she thought a black and blue band might look tacky, then called it "unique, sleek". That is the Visionary's trick: the blue is a groove, not a stripe, so most of the time you see a black ring.
The caveat is construction. A two-colour ring is assembled from more than one piece, and in Alan's words "the sizing has to be super accurate, sometimes they can come apart". It is rare, and if it happens we look after you, as our reviews show.
The blue, like the black, is a coating on tungsten. There is no real blue stone or enamel to chip.
What customers say about it:
“Brought this as my wedding band, fast delivery and an amazing quality. Would 100% recommend for people to look here if they want something more masculine and outside a normal gold or silver band. Sizing is spot on too”
James Howe, Pontypridd · verified five-star review
“this is such a unique, sleek looking ring. The pictures don't do it justice. Fantastic quality as well.”
Chelsea Walters, London · verified five-star review
4. Best under £50: The Scout — £48 at Newman Bands
What we like
- The most-reviewed ring in our black collection, with more than 140 verified reviews
- Titanium is light, around a third of the weight of the same ring in tungsten
- Black on the inside, silver on the outside: a black ring only you know about
- 6mm or 8mm, in 19 sizes from M to Z5
What we don’t like
- It is not black on the outside; if you want an all-black ring, this is not it
- In Alan's experience the black coating on titanium is less robust than on tungsten
The Scout is here for the buyer who likes the idea of black but has to wear a ring that looks conventional at work. The outside is brushed silver titanium; the inside is polished black, and you see it every time the ring comes off.
Titanium is the lightweight metal. By density it weighs about a third of tungsten carbide for the same ring, and reviewers who found tungsten "too heavy or tight as the day wore on" describe the Scout as light and comfortable all day.
The reason it is not higher is Alan's own. "I would always recommend tungsten over titanium as the plating is stronger." On the Scout the black is on the inside, where it is protected.
Titanium is nickel-free by specification, so this is the ring we point to when someone has a diagnosed nickel allergy.
What customers say about it:
“My husband was really impressed with his new wedding ring. The first 1 wasn't the right size and we had help straight away with regards to making an exchange. Highly recommended”
Leanne Underwood, Manchester · verified five-star review
“Bought as a gift for my partner and it's beautiful! Amazing quality, fantastic price & for the first time in 10 years he's wearing a ring he loves!”
Shannon Shipley, Exeter · verified five-star review
5. Best inlay: The Fireball — £63 at Newman Bands
What we like
- A pattern through the centre without any texture: the inlay is sealed under resin, so the ring is smooth
- 100 verified reviews, many of them from people buying it as a gift
- 6mm or 8mm, in 17 sizes from O to Z5
What we don’t like
- The meteorite is faux, a printed pattern, not iron from space; we say so on the product page
- Polished all over, so it reflects rather than hides
- Smallest size is O
Inlay rings are where black becomes a statement. The Fireball frames a meteorite-pattern centre in polished black tungsten, and because the inlay sits under a clear resin the whole ring is smooth to the touch.
We are careful with the word meteorite. All six of our meteorite rings use a faux meteorite pattern, the Fireball among them: it is a pattern, not iron from space. A buyer who wants the real thing should look elsewhere and expect to pay for it.
In our reviews the Fireball is bought as a gift; one buyer had her own name and her baby's engraved inside it for Valentine's Day. The laser engraving on a black ring reads silver-grey on black, which is why black rings show engraving best.
The trade-off is the finish. The whole surface is polished, so it reflects light rather than absorbing it, the opposite of the Jet.
What customers say about it:
“I brought this band for my husband after he lost his wedding ring. We saw this one and was so impressed by the description and the look of the ring, it was very unique! We decided to go for a smaller size and I personally was impressed by the price! The ring was delivered the day after purchase which was so quick!”
Kelly-Anne Mahey, Abergele · verified five-star review
“We ordered 2 as my husband to be wanted an official ring and one he can wear at work so the other one doesn't get ruined! Both rings are so unique and well made.”
Emma Webb, Carrickfergus · verified five-star review
6. Best thin band: The Raven — £48 at Newman Bands
What we like
- 4mm wide, for men who find most rings too chunky
- Brushed black titanium, so it is light as well as slim
- 15 sizes from M to Z1
What we don’t like
- Titanium's black coating is less hard-wearing than tungsten's in our experience
- 4mm only; there is no wider Raven
About one in ten of the rings we send out is a 4mm band, and the Raven is the brushed black titanium one. It is brushed black titanium with a polished black interior, and most buyers choose it as a wedding band or a gift.
Width changes how a ring feels more than most people expect. An 8mm band feels tighter than a 6mm in the same size because more skin is covered; a 4mm band is the opposite, and it suits slimmer fingers and men who have never worn a ring.
The caveat is the coating. Alan's rule from the returns desk is that the plating on tungsten is stronger than on titanium, so a black titanium band is likelier to show grey at the edges if you are hard on it.
We do not sell a plain black 4mm tungsten band, which is why the Raven takes this spot rather than a tungsten ring.
What customers say about it:
“Ordered two Raven rings last week. Sizer was delivered very fast and was very easy to use. After confirming our sizes the actual rings were also delivered fast with no issues. The ring quality is great and fits exactly as it should have. Price was also excellent. We have zero complaints.”
Aaron Maguire · verified five-star review
“I got the ring for my husband and he absolutely loves it. It looks great and fits perfectly. Really pleased.”

7. Best brushed-and-polished black: The Strength — £58 at Newman Bands
What we like
- Two finishes in one colour: a brushed matte centre with polished bevelled edges
- 16 g for the 8mm at size U, the heaviest ring we weighed
- 6mm or 8mm, in 24 sizes from H to Z5, the joint widest size run here with the Visionary
What we don’t like
- A hard scrape on a polished bevel shows grey, as on any coated edge
- Cannot be resized
The Strength is one of the most popular wedding bands in our tungsten range, and it is here because the Jet is not for everyone. Where the Jet is a single matte surface, the Strength adds polished bevelled edges that catch the light, so it reads as a wedding ring rather than a plain band.
At 16 g for an 8mm in size U it is the heaviest ring we weighed, a gram more than the Jet. If you want to feel the ring on your hand, this is the one.
The size run is the practical point. It goes from H to Z5, which covers both the slimmest and the largest hands. The "I don't know my ring size" option sends a free sizer with the order.
Polished edges are a trade-off we would rather state than hide. They are the part of a coated ring most likely to take Alan's "unlucky scrape", and a scrape there shows grey.
What customers say about it:
“Delivery was super quick, and the ring is beautiful!! Husband has even been wearing it in the gym and it's got no marks or scratches.”
Danielle Brown, Manchester · verified five-star review
“Quality ring, nice weight to it. On trying it on for the first time the size is true and very comfortable.”
Nick · verified five-star review
8. Best if the black must never peel: Polished black zirconium — £226.68 at Wedding Rings Direct
What we like
- The black is an oxide layer grown into the metal by heat, so it cannot peel or flake the way a deposited coating can
- Heavier than titanium by about half again, so it feels like a metal ring without tungsten's weight
- Free insured Special Delivery, and a 30-day money-back promise on its product page
What we don’t like
- Made to order: five-day express manufacture costs £48 (delivery page, read 8 Oct 2026)
- 30 days from dispatch, shipping and express costs not refunded, and the same ring cannot be exchanged for a new size (returns policy, read 8 Oct 2026)
- A new size costs £45, as a resize or as one remake within three months (resizing page, read 9 Oct 2026)
We do not sell zirconium, and this is the label it genuinely wins. Black zirconium is zirconium metal whose surface has been converted to a black oxide by heat. Because the layer is grown from the metal rather than deposited on it, it cannot delaminate. That is a real advantage over every coated ring in this list, ours included.
It is not the same as wear-proof. The oxide is still a surface layer a few thousandths of a millimetre deep, described in the patents behind it as "relatively thin", and zirconium underneath is grey. A deep enough scratch shows the metal, and a resize costs £45.
The price is the other half of the trade-off. At £226.68 for the 8mm ring this is nearly four times the Jet, and the ring is made to order, so a wedding next week needs the £48 express option.
If what you want is a black that cannot wear through to grey, our Esteem does that job for £60: the colour is the ceramic itself, all the way through, and every size is held in stock in Horsham. Zirconium wins where you want that in a metal rather than a ceramic, because ceramic can crack from a hard knock.
Wedding Rings Direct's returns page is clearer than most, and worth reading before you buy. A size problem means a different style, not the same ring in a new size.
9. Best if you want solid precious metal: Platinum and zirconium — £652 at Beaverbrooks
What we like
- The only ring here with a precious metal in it: a black zirconium band with a central platinum inlay
- Free next-day delivery over £150, and a 30-day return in store or by post (delivery and returns pages, read 8 Oct 2026)
- A high-street jeweller you can walk into
What we don’t like
- £652 on its own page on 8 Oct 2026, shown as reduced from £975; Google Shopping listed the same ring at £895 the same day, so check the page
- Beaverbrooks says there are certain types of ring it is unable to resize, and asks that a ring be unworn if you need a different size (returns page, read 8 Oct 2026)
- The black band is still zirconium oxide, with the same surface-layer limits as pick 8
If you have decided a wedding ring must contain a precious metal, nothing on our shelves will change your mind and we will not try. This Beaverbrooks ring is a black zirconium band with a central platinum inlay, so you get the black look with a precious metal in it.
What you are paying for is the platinum inlay, not the black. The black band is the same heat-grown zirconium oxide as the Wedding Rings Direct ring above, with the same strengths and limits. If the black itself is what matters, our Esteem ceramic ring is black through the whole body for £60.
The price ladder above shows where this ring sits against everything else in the list: at the top, by a distance. We could not weigh it, so it is not on our weight chart.
The price moved between surfaces on the day we checked. Our rule is to trust the retailer's own page, and we would read it the day you buy.
10. Best if price is all that matters: King Will black tungsten, 8mm — £31.99 on Amazon
What we like
- £31.99, dispatched by Amazon, with Amazon's 30-day return in its original condition
- Tungsten carbide, so the base material is the same family as ours
What we don’t like
- One in twenty of its 12,470 ratings is one or two stars, and one in ten is three stars or below (rating breakdown read 9 Oct 2026: 80% five, 10% four, 5% three, 1% two, 4% one)
- Amazon's own summary of the reviews says opinions on size are mixed, "with some finding it right while others say it's too big"; it comes in half sizes only between N½ and X½, then Z, Z+1 and Z+3, so there is no whole size from N to X; it cannot be resized, and the seller's size guide says its paper sizes are "for reference only"
- The listing promises "180-Day Coverage" in one bullet and a "30 DAY WARRANTY" in the description, which excludes "damage caused by the buyers themselves" (product page, 8 Oct 2026)
- The seller's own care tips say to keep it away from hard substances and harsh chemicals and to store it in its box
- Sold by a third-party seller (UP EU), dispatched by Amazon; country of origin China; engraving only by contacting the seller
This is the ring for a buyer who has decided that price is the only thing that matters, and we would rather say so than pretend it does not exist. At £31.99 it is a tungsten carbide band with a black coating, and the listing's own figures tell you the rest.
Start with the ratings. A 4.6-star average sounds settled until you read the breakdown: one rating in twenty is one or two stars, and one in ten is three stars or below. Across 12,470 ratings that is several hundred buyers who gave it one or two stars. The one- and two-star reviews sit behind a sign-in wall, so we cannot quote them; Amazon's own summary of the reviews is that opinions on size are mixed.
Size is the first thing to check on any ring that cannot be resized. The listing offers half sizes only between N½ and X½, then Z, Z+1 and Z+3, and the seller's guide says its printed sizes are "for reference only". If it is too big, you are back in Amazon's returns flow within 30 days, with a third-party seller behind it. We send a free sizer, exchange sizes free as many times as it takes, and give you 100 days.
Then read the small print. One bullet promises "180-Day Coverage"; the description underneath offers a "30 DAY WARRANTY" that excludes damage "caused by the buyers themselves". The care tips tell you to keep the ring away from hard substances and to store it in its box. That is the seller's own advice.
You often pay for what you get. If you do not care about quality and just want a cheap ring, this one will probably fit the bill, but do not expect a quality ring at that price. If you care about the gift you are giving, it is worth paying the extra and buying from a quality jeweller like Newman Bands, with the reviews and the returns policy to back it up.
Our rings cost between one and a half and two times as much. The difference is the free sizer, the unlimited exchanges and the 100-day returns. It is also engraving done in Horsham and dispatched the same day, and Alan or Clare answering the email when something goes wrong.
What we left out, and why
- Wolf&Bond “The Axis”, brushed black tungsten, £220 (product page, 8 Oct 2026). The same coated tungsten as the Jet at more than three times the price. Its guarantee page, marketed as lifetime cover, excludes coated finishes fading, chipping or wearing, and damage at the gym or at work. Its refund policy deducts £4.50 from a change-of-mind refund and charges £4.45 per size exchange, despite a “Free Exchanges” badge on the product page. It dispatches only on Mondays and Thursdays (policies read 8 Oct 2026).
- Ernest Jones Men’s Black Titanium Ring, £250, and the £60 black IP titanium rings. Both read on their own pages on 8 Oct 2026. The £250 ring’s page lists its width as 0.7 mm, which cannot be right, and does not say how the black is applied. The £60 rings are honest about being “black IP titanium”, a coating, with the same 30-day returns as the high street. Good rings; nothing a £48 Vitality or Scout does not do.
- H Samuel Tungsten & Black Ceramic Men’s Ring, £179 (product page, 8 Oct 2026). Not a black ring: the page lists the tungsten as silver-tone with black ceramic edges. Fine if that is the look you want.
- Temple & Grace Classic CW black zirconium, £190 (product page, 8 Oct 2026). A fair alternative to pick 8 with 100-day returns, but its own page says it cannot be resized and that engraved rings cannot be returned, and its zirconium collection page claims zirconium is similar in weight to titanium. By density it is about half as heavy again.
- HusBands Black Whiskey Barrel ring, £89 (product page, 8 Oct 2026). Black tungsten with a reclaimed-oak interior sleeve, so the surface against your skin is wood, not tungsten. One free size exchange, then £5; made-to-order rings take 10 to 15 business days.
- Our own Champion. It is our best-selling ring, but it is a three-tone band with silver, rose gold and black, not a black ring, so it does not belong on this list.
