Tungsten carbide rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale — just below diamond. Only a diamond can mark it.
Tungsten don't react with air, water or skin — ever. Our colours outlast precious metal equivalents.
Built for long-term wear — retains its shape and finish even with daily use.
Every ring arrives in a presentation gift box — no extra packaging needed. Ready to give exactly as it arrives.
Polished tungsten with a triple-band inlay of abalone shell and opal running through the centre. 8mm. The abalone shifts between greens, blues, and purples depending on the light, and the opal stripe down the middle adds a bright blue glow that catches the eye from every angle. The Mystique is one of Newman Bands’ most distinctive designs. Partners buy it as a wedding band or engagement ring for someone who wants colour and character. Buyers choose it for themselves because it stands out without being loud. 55+ five-star reviews.
Tungsten carbide sits at 9 on the Mohs hardness scale — one below diamond. It won’t scratch from daily wear, won’t tarnish, and won’t react with skin. The ring has real weight to it — tungsten is about the same density as 18-karat gold, so it feels solid and substantial on your finger. The comfort-fit interior curves against the finger with no edges catching or digging in. Hypoallergenic. Engravable. Dispatched today.
What makes this ring worth it?
Walk into a jeweller and you’ll find versions of our rings for 3–4 times the price. The difference isn’t the ring — it’s the overheads. We work directly with the craftspeople who make them and carry the stock ourselves, which is how we can sell a ring that genuinely lasts for a fraction of high street prices.
Traditional gold and silver scratch, bend and lose their shine. That doesn’t happen here. We use a high end process called PVD plating which is the same process used on high end watches to keep your ring looking great.
Why buy from Newman Bands?
We’re based in Horsham and dispatch the same day for orders before 5pm (11am Saturday). That includes engraved rings — we hold stock and engrave on site, which is why we can still get it to you in 1–2 days. Most online ring sellers take 2 weeks or more.
We’ve fulfilled over 100,000 orders since 2019 and hold over 10,000 five-star reviews across Trustpilot and Reviews.io. Any questions before you buy — contact us directly. No chatbots, no outsourced support. We handle it ourselves.
What if it doesn't fit?
Tungsten and titanium can’t be resized, so we offer free exchanges or refunds on unengraved rings — no questions asked. If you want a refund or an exchange, you have 100 days to return it free for any reason.
Not sure of your size? Select “I don’t know my ring size” from the dropdown and we’ll send you a free ring sizer first.
THE DETAILS
One below diamond. Tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials used in jewellery — it won’t scratch from keys, tools, or everyday contact. The PVD finish bonds at a molecular level rather than plating on top, so it won’t peel, fade, or tarnish. Peter from Rochester wears his Mystique daily as a crane operator and does bricklaying, decorating, and garden work without taking it off.
Tungsten carbide has almost the same density as 18-karat gold. You feel it the moment you put it on — solid, substantial, nothing like a lightweight fashion ring. Matthew from the United States: “Really stunning ring great weight to it, delivered next working day. Fits perfectly.”
The abalone shell inlay shifts between greens, blues, and purples depending on the angle. The opal stripe running through the centre adds a bright blue glow that catches sunlight and indoor light differently. No two glances look quite the same. Kim from Tipton: “Stunning detailing on the ring when the light hits the opal the glow is beautiful.”
Every ring arrives in a presentation box. Add a date, name, or message with laser engraving done in-house. We engrave and post the same day. Emma from London bought the Mystique as a gift: “I am really impressed with the quality of the ring and it is such an unusual piece. I asked for the ring to be engraved and this turned out really well.”

Who This Ring Is For
The Mystique draws two main buyer groups. The largest: partners choosing a wedding band, engagement ring, or anniversary gift for someone who wants something distinctive. The abalone and opal combination gives it personality that a plain metal band can’t match, and buyers consistently say it gets noticed.
Kimberley from Edinburgh bought it for her husband: “He loves it and has quite a few people commenting on how nice it is.” The second group: buyers choosing it for themselves — someone drawn to natural materials and colour rather than a standard silver or black band.
Jonathan from the United Kingdom describes the appeal: the opal and abalone combination “pops in the sun” and gives the ring a character that feels personal rather than mass-produced.
A polished tungsten band with a triple-stripe inlay running through the centre: abalone shell on either side of a blue opal stripe. The abalone shifts between greens, blues, and purples depending on the light and angle — no two moments look quite the same. The opal adds a brighter, more vivid blue that glows when light hits it directly. The tungsten frame holds the inlay flush and smooth, so the surface has no ridges or texture breaks. The comfort-fit interior curves against the finger for all-day wear.
“The Mystique ring’s inclusions of abalone and opal make it stand out in a really nice way. The fit of the ring is perfect and the delivery was amazingly quick.” — Steven Carr, Boston Bob from Bolton adds: the abalone shell and opal “look amazing and the fit is perfect.”
Why Tungsten
Tungsten carbide rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale — one below diamond. It’s approximately ten times harder than 18-karat gold. Under normal daily wear, it won’t scratch from keys, tools, gym equipment, or anything softer than a sapphire.
It’s also one of the heaviest ring materials available — nearly the same density as 18-karat gold. That weight is a detail buyers notice immediately. The Mystique feels solid and substantial on the finger, not a lightweight fashion band.
Tungsten won’t rust, tarnish, or corrode. The PVD finish bonds at a molecular level, not painted or plated on top. It won’t react with skin. Nickel-bonded tungsten carbide is hypoallergenic — the nickel bonds so tightly with the tungsten during manufacturing that it loses its ability to cause a skin reaction.
Tungsten can’t be resized. If the fit isn’t right, return it free and we’ll exchange it the same day it arrives.
How it Compares
Buyers consistently describe the Mystique as looking and feeling better than they expected. Gary Broad put it simply: the rings “look far more expensive than they are.” Maya agreed: it “looks better than it does on the website.”
An abalone and opal inlay ring from a specialist jeweller typically costs several times what you’d pay here. The Mystique’s combination of natural shell, opal, and tungsten gives it a look that reads as artisan — and buyers notice the gap between what it looks like and what they paid. Nathan from the United Kingdom sums it up: “Such great service and value for money.”
Buying This as a Gift?
The presentation box does the work for you — no wrapping needed. Add a laser engraving and it becomes personal. We engrave in-house and post the same day.
“This ring was given as a gift to my friend following a bereavement. The majestic colours, the shine, and the soft quality finish truly captured the depth and sentiment that we wanted.”
— Michele Scott, Royal Leamington Spa

“I haven’t worn jewellery apart from my wedding band, but thought I’d change my wedding ring. Very nearly chose a plain tungsten band but opted for this. The blue Opal that runs through the middle colour band is quite striking, complemented by the abalone shell either side.”
Peter Dennison, Rochester
The abalone and opal combination is the most praised feature across Mystique reviews. The shell shifts between greens, blues, and purples while the opal adds a vivid blue glow. Multiple buyers say the ring exceeded their expectations when they opened the box — the way the materials interact with light does not fully translate through a screen. Over 15 buyers mention value, describing a ring that looks like artisan jewellery at a fraction of the expected price.
“Not only it looks beautiful, the craftsmanship is awesome. Smooth and shiny. It is very comfortable on my finger because of the smooth rim. A problem I have had with other rings including my wedding one.”
Saeed Ghanavat
“Bought the ring for my husband and he loves it and has quite a few people commenting on how nice it is.”
Kimberley Smythe, Edinburgh
Comfort and compliments are recurring themes. Buyers who have had issues with sharp edges on other rings notice the smooth comfort-fit interior. The opal and abalone combination is unusual enough that people notice it and ask about it — multiple buyers report receiving regular compliments. All 58 verified Mystique reviews are five stars.
You have 100 days to try it at home. If it’s not right for any reason, return it free.
The most common hesitation with buying an abalone and opal ring online is whether the colours will look as vivid in person as they do in the product photos — whether the shell and opal will have that glow, or look dull and flat in real life. Praveena was honest about it: the shade wasn’t exactly what she expected when it arrived. But the colour still worked, the fit was perfect, and the service was prompt at every step. Maya put it more directly: it “looks better than it does on the website.”
We offer 100-day free returns because we already know what 58 buyers before you thought when they opened the box. Wrong size? Return it free and we’ll exchange it the same day it arrives. You’re dealing with real people — Clare, Alan, and the team in Horsham.
